Heh. Not illegal. There are many 'free' shards for different games out there. Only difference is the free shard will not have the same aspects as the actual game. When actual games updates and gets new stuff the free ones doesnt. Like uo for example. Thats why we have scriptors to add "special" stuff in game. But does not have all the different aspects of the original uo because they have updated so much. Our shard is unique because of the custom scriptors and items we have made. But is not Like the actual uo u play. smaller player base but become friends with the small community. It pertains to alot of differnt games. I only stated uo well because deakon brought it up :P

It becomes illegal if you start chargeing people to play. At 1 time we had the largest free game server for UO and we still had to cap at 200 players or so or we would crash. If anything it prob. helped Ultima Online to gain new players because our server did not change fast enough so people would get board and try the real UO servers. Ultima Online even has a scriptors boards for hints and questions. Most likely they use some of the scripts and ideas that the free servers come up with and do not have to pay some guy 150k a year to do it. I can see why people would think it is though. I thought it was at first too

meh we host our own versions of the 2d mmorpg game Tibia and it's not illegal, however Cipsoft has a forum area where you can make suggestions and that's where most scriptors post there "ideas", I say that because they've already worked out the scripts but aren't allowed to post them because it breaks there forum rules, and cip goes from there however it is a free game unless you choose to pay for it. We've seen a bunch of things added in the real game like a few of our quests such as the annihilator which is usualy the hardest one in every server. we even creat our own unique maps to play on that way people don't get bored too fast and we tend to suggest new playable areas for cip to design as they see fit.
